Testing a new medication to reduce pain crises in sickle cell disease

This trial is testing a new medication called crizanlizumab to see if it can reduce how often people with sickle cell disease have painful crises (called vaso-occlusive crises). About half of participants will receive the medication, and half will receive a placebo (an inactive treatment), while both groups continue their regular sickle cell care. The study will measure how well this medication works and whether it's safe.

Sickle cell disease causes severe, unpredictable pain crises that can land people in the hospital and greatly affect quality of life. This trial exists to find out whether this medication can help prevent these crises or make them less frequent for people who experience them often.
