Understanding rare fat loss disorders and their health complications

This is a long-term observational study designed to help researchers better understand lipodystrophy syndromes — a group of extremely rare genetic disorders characterized by abnormal loss of body fat. Researchers will follow approximately 500 patients over 5 to 7 years, collecting detailed information about how these conditions affect health over time and what complications tend to develop.

Very little is known about how these rare disorders progress or what predicts serious complications like diabetes, dangerously high triglycerides, liver disease, and heart problems. This study will gather long-term data to help doctors better predict risks and manage patients with these conditions.
