Understanding heart valve infection outcomes and complications

This is a research study that will follow patients who have been diagnosed with infectious endocarditis—an infection of the heart valve lining. Researchers want to understand what happens to patients over time, which factors predict better or worse outcomes, and how complications develop. By studying both past patient records and new patients going forward, they hope to improve how doctors diagnose and treat this serious condition.

Infectious endocarditis is a rare but serious disease that is difficult to diagnose and treat, with high death rates. Over recent decades, the types of patients who get this infection have changed—it now happens more often in older people and those with artificial heart valves or devices.
