Understanding severe heart failure shock in hospital patients

This is a registry study that collects detailed medical information from patients admitted to intensive heart care units with cardiogenic shock—a life-threatening condition where the heart can't pump enough blood to the body. Researchers are studying all patients with this condition, regardless of what caused it, to better understand the different types of cardiogenic shock, how hospitals are treating them, and what happens to patients over time.

Cardiogenic shock is a medical emergency with very high short-term death rates. Most previous research focused only on shock caused by heart attacks, but recent studies show that many patients develop cardiogenic shock from other causes—and these patients do just as poorly. This study exists to get a complete picture of all cardiogenic shock patients so hospitals can develop better specialized care systems and doctors can make faster, more effective treatment decisions.
