Registry tracking large birthmarks and related nervous system involvement

This is a research registry — a database where doctors collect and track information about patients with large dark birthmarks that are present from birth (sometimes called large congenital melanocytic nevi), and cases where similar dark pigmentation is found in the nervous system. Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center want to better understand how these conditions develop and what medical care helps patients most.

Large birthmarks and related nervous system involvement are rare conditions, and doctors don't yet have enough information about how they progress over time or what treatments work best. By gathering medical information from many patients in one place, researchers hope to improve care and understanding.
