Understanding kidney transplant access for people with obesity on dialysis

This is a research study looking at why people with obesity starting dialysis have more difficulty accessing kidney transplants compared to others. Researchers want to understand what factors are preventing obese patients from getting on transplant waiting lists and receiving donor kidneys. By studying this problem, they hope to find ways to make kidney transplant access fairer and more available to everyone who needs it.

Obesity is becoming more common worldwide and increases the risk of kidney disease. Although about one in four people on dialysis has obesity, these patients are being offered kidney transplants less often than people without obesity—but nobody fully understands why. This study exists to uncover those hidden barriers so doctors can work to remove them.
