Therapy to help mothers with trauma reduce child maltreatment

This study is testing whether a type of therapy called P-STAIR can help mothers who have experienced trauma and are receiving family support services. P-STAIR combines two proven approaches: one that helps reduce trauma symptoms and improve emotion management, and another that teaches positive parenting skills. Researchers want to see if this combined therapy is more helpful than supportive counseling alone.

Many mothers who experience post-traumatic stress struggle with parenting, which can sometimes lead to child maltreatment. This trial exists to find out whether treating the mother's trauma symptoms while also teaching better parenting skills can help break this cycle and keep children safer.
