Testing a diabetes medication to improve exercise ability in heart failure patients

This trial is testing whether Empagliflozin, a medication originally developed for diabetes, can help people with a specific type of heart failure called HFpEF (heart failure with preserved ejection fraction). Researchers want to see if the medication alone, or combined with potassium nitrate, can improve how far you can walk or exercise and help your muscles use oxygen more efficiently. The study will measure changes in your exercise ability, muscle function, and blood flow.

Many people with this type of heart failure struggle with exhaustion and limited exercise ability, even though their heart's pumping strength looks normal on standard tests. This medication has shown promise in early research, but doctors need to understand exactly how it works in these patients and whether adding potassium nitrate makes it more effective.
