What is this trial?

This is a registry study — meaning researchers are collecting information from patients already diagnosed with renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD), a rare condition where the walls of blood vessels in the kidneys become thickened and narrowed. By gathering medical records and imaging from 500 patients across China, the study aims to understand how this condition affects different people and how best to prevent serious complications.

Very little is known about how fibromuscular dysplasia develops or progresses, especially in Asian populations. Researchers hope that by studying a large group of Chinese patients, they can identify what causes the disease, who faces the highest risk of complications like stroke or heart attack, and what treatment approaches work best.

Do you qualify?

You likely qualify if…

you have been diagnosed with renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia confirmed by imaging (CT scan, MRI, or angiography)
you have the typical 'string-of-beads' pattern of narrowing or a single area of narrowing in your kidney artery
you have an unusual presentation of the condition (dissection or multiple aneurysms) without other genetic disorders
you are under 18 years old with confirmed renal artery FMD and no underlying genetic syndrome
you are willing to give informed consent to participate

You likely don't qualify if…

you have not been diagnosed with renal artery fibromuscular dysplasia
your diagnosis has not been confirmed by imaging studies
you have an inherited genetic condition like Williams syndrome, Alagille syndrome, or type 1 neurofibromatosis
your investigator believes you are not suitable for the study for medical or other reasons

What participation looks like

As a participant, you would share your medical records, imaging results, and health information with the research team. The study is observational, meaning you won't receive a new medication or procedure — instead, researchers will track your condition over time and collect information about your symptoms, treatments, and how you're doing. You may be asked to complete follow-up visits or provide updates about your health.
