Blood tests to predict heart problems from breast cancer treatment

Some breast cancer patients who receive doxorubicin or other anthracycline chemotherapy drugs can develop heart problems as a side effect. This study is looking for specific genetic markers in blood samples that might help doctors predict which patients are at higher risk for heart damage before it happens.

Heart damage from cancer treatment can be serious and difficult to manage. If doctors could identify which patients are at risk ahead of time, they might be able to take steps to protect the heart during treatment or monitor patients more closely.
