Testing a blood test to monitor colorectal cancer after surgery

This trial is investigating whether a blood-based test called FIT-DNA can be used to monitor people who have had colorectal cancer surgery. The FIT-DNA test looks for cancer DNA in the blood and has shown promise at detecting colorectal cancer and precancerous growths. Researchers want to see if this simple blood test could help catch cancer recurrence or new tumors earlier and reduce the need for frequent colonoscopies.

After colorectal cancer surgery, 30–50% of patients experience cancer recurrence or spread. Currently, doctors rely on colonoscopy (a camera procedure) for monitoring, which is invasive and uncomfortable. This trial aims to find out if the blood test could be a less invasive way to catch problems early and improve how well patients stick with their follow-up care.
