Testing home blood pressure checks in African American teens

This study is testing whether African American teens can use a home blood pressure machine to help doctors diagnose high blood pressure more accurately. Right now, doctors usually measure blood pressure multiple times in the office, but that doesn't always give the true picture — some teens have high readings at the doctor but normal readings at home. Researchers want to see if measuring blood pressure at home over a few days works better.

African American teenagers are at higher risk for high blood pressure than other teens, yet many cases are missed because office visits are inconvenient and may not reflect real-life readings. This study aims to find a simpler, more accurate way to catch high blood pressure early so it can be prevented or treated before it causes problems later in life.
