How well does monkeypox vaccine work in people with HIV

This study is tracking how people's bodies respond to the MVA-BN monkeypox vaccine, especially in people living with HIV. Researchers want to understand whether the vaccine creates strong immune protection in this group, since people with HIV made up about half of the monkeypox cases during the recent outbreak. The study will compare immune responses in vaccinated people with HIV and vaccinated people without HIV.

During the recent monkeypox outbreak in Europe, vaccine doses were limited, so health officials approved a new way of giving the medication — as a single small dose injected into the skin rather than under the skin. However, doctors don't yet have enough information about whether this approach works well in people living with HIV or what side effects it might cause.
