This study doesn't follow the usual testing phases โ it may be an observational study or a different type of research.
This research study is looking for a condition called transthyretin amyloidosis โ a buildup of abnormal protein in the heart โ in patients who have heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. Researchers want to understand how often this condition occurs and what symptoms to look for. Finding more patients with this condition early is important because treatments are now available that can help.
Many older adults with heart failure may actually have this treatable protein disease without knowing it. By screening more patients and learning to recognize the warning signs, doctors can identify and treat affected patients earlier, potentially improving their quality of life.

You will have a single visit at Massachusetts General Hospital where you'll receive a special heart imaging scan, provide a blood sample (and optional DNA sample), answer questions about your symptoms and quality of life, walk for 6 minutes to test your physical ability, and have an heart ultrasound and electrical tracing of your heart. After that, researchers will review your medical records for up to 5 years to track how you're doing.
