Support program to improve HIV care and reduce partner violence

This trial is testing a new support program called 1MoreStep designed specifically for Black women living with HIV who have experienced intimate partner violence. The program consists of 8 weekly sessions led by a community health educator who has personal experience with trauma and HIV. The goal is to help women stay connected to their HIV medical care and address the serious impact that partner violence has on their health.

Black women with HIV face unique challenges — including poverty, lack of support resources, and high rates of partner violence — that make it harder for them to stay engaged with their medical care. When women experience intimate partner violence, they are even less likely to attend their HIV appointments and take their medications, which puts their health at serious risk. This trial exists to test whether a culturally informed support program can help remove these barriers.
