This study doesn't follow the usual testing phases โ it may be an observational study or a different type of research.
After a stroke, the heart can sometimes be damaged even though the stroke affected the brain. Researchers want to understand this connection better by measuring a protein in the blood called GDF-15 and checking the heart's function with recordings and ultrasounds. This study will help doctors figure out whether GDF-15 can warn them about heart damage after stroke.
Doctors know that stroke and heart damage are connected, but they don't fully understand why some stroke patients develop heart problems. Finding a blood test that can predict this heart damage early might help doctors treat patients better and prevent serious complications.

You will have 4 visits over about 4 to 6 months. At your first visit (within 24 hours of stroke symptoms), you'll give consent and have baseline tests. Over the next 1โ2 days, you'll have blood tests, a heart rhythm recording (EKG), and heart ultrasounds during your hospital stay. Then you'll return for a final follow-up visit 4โ6 months later for more heart tests. The main procedures are simple blood draws and non-invasive heart monitoring.
