Testing intensive hand and arm therapy at home after stroke

Stroke often leaves people with weakness or loss of movement in their hands, arms, and legs. This trial is testing a therapy called HABIT-ILE (Hand-Arm Bimanual Intensive Therapy Including Lower Extremities), which uses focused practice of movements involving both sides of the body to help regain strength and function. The study compares whether doing this therapy at home is as effective as receiving it at a specialized center.

After stroke, intensive therapy that combines movement of both hands, arms, and legs together has shown promise for helping people regain independence in daily activities. However, many people cannot access this treatment because it requires traveling to a specialized center for two weeks. This trial tests whether delivering the same intensive therapy at home could make it available to more stroke patients.
