What is this trial?

This trial is testing a combination of three treatments for chronic hepatitis B: antiviral pills (nucleos(t)ide analogues), an immune-boosting drug called , and interferon. The goal is to help more patients achieve a 'functional cure'—meaning the hepatitis B virus becomes undetectable and stays that way long-term. Current treatments only help about 10% of patients reach this goal, so researchers are trying this new combination to improve those odds.

Most people with chronic hepatitis B have immune systems that cannot fight off the virus on their own. This medication works by 'waking up' exhausted immune cells so they can battle the infection more effectively, potentially achieving what current treatments cannot—a lasting cure.

Do you qualify?

You likely qualify if…

you are between 18 and 70 years old
you have been diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B
you weigh at least 40 kg (88 lbs) if female or 45 kg (99 lbs) if male
you are willing to use effective birth control during the study and for 30 days after your last dose
you can commit to completing the study as required

You likely don't qualify if…

you are allergic to any of the study medications or their ingredients
you have been taking certain other medications in the past month that interact with these drugs
you have liver disease so advanced that your liver is failing (decompensated cirrhosis)
you have been diagnosed with liver cancer or have signs of it
you have serious infections, major surgery planned, or other serious health conditions affecting your heart, lungs, kidneys, or immune system

What participation looks like

You would receive either the standard hepatitis B treatment plus interferon, or the standard treatment plus interferon and the new immune-boosting medication. You'll take pills at home and receive injections regularly. You'll need to visit the clinic for check-ups, blood tests, and imaging scans to monitor how well the treatment is working and check for any side effects. The study will track whether the virus becomes undetectable and stays that way over time.
