Special diet combined with medication to treat ulcerative colitis flare-ups

This trial is testing whether adding a specialized exclusion diet (called the UC Exclusion Diet) to budesonide medication can help people with ulcerative colitis achieve remission and heal their gut lining better than budesonide alone. The study will follow you for 24 weeks to see if the diet + medication combination works better than medication by itself. The hope is that dietary changes could treat the root cause of ulcerative colitis without requiring lifelong immune-suppressing drugs.

Right now, ulcerative colitis is only treated with medications or surgery, and many patients want alternatives that don't involve long-term immune suppression. This trial exists to see if a carefully designed diet might offer a gentler option that could actually address what causes the disease, rather than just managing symptoms.
