Adding a new ablation target to heart rhythm treatment

This trial is testing a heart rhythm procedure for people with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (a condition where your heart rhythm becomes irregular) that hasn't responded to medications. You would receive a standard procedure called pulmonary vein isolation, but half of participants will also receive an additional treatment targeting the superior vena cava — a major vein that may also contribute to irregular heartbeats. The trial uses artificial intelligence to guide this additional treatment precisely and safely.

Even after the standard ablation procedure, some patients continue to have irregular heartbeats because the problem originates in places other than the pulmonary veins. The superior vena cava is a known source of these extra heartbeats, but previous attempts to treat it have had mixed results and safety concerns. This trial aims to develop a safer, more precise way to target this area using computer-guided technology.
