Plain-English translation of NCT05962437 on ClinicalTrials.gov ↗ ·
This study doesn't follow the usual testing phases — it may be an observational study or a different type of research.
This trial is testing STANZA, a smartphone app that uses acceptance and commitment therapy—a type of psychological training focused on mindfulness and behavior change—to help people with fibromyalgia manage their pain and improve quality of life. The study will compare three groups: people receiving usual care alone, people receiving usual care plus the STANZA app, and people receiving usual care plus a tracking app that monitors symptoms. Researchers will also measure certain immune markers in a subset of participants to understand how the treatment works in the body.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that can be difficult to treat with medication alone, and many people struggle with daily activities and work. This trial exists to see whether adding the psychological skills taught through this treatment can help people manage their symptoms better and reduce the overall cost and burden of their condition.

If you join this study, you will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: standard care only, standard care plus the STANZA app, or standard care plus a symptom tracking app. The study lasts 6 months total. If assigned to the STANZA app, you would complete 41 structured lessons over 8 weeks, then use the app for 4 more weeks to practice and strengthen the skills you've learned. You may also be asked to provide blood samples so researchers can measure immune markers related to fibromyalgia. Throughout the study, you'll continue seeing your regular doctor for usual fibromyalgia care.
