Light therapy added to gum disease treatment in people with obesity

This trial is testing whether adding antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (a treatment using a special dye and red light) to standard gum cleaning helps people with obesity who have periodontal disease (gum disease). Half of the participants will receive the standard gum scaling and root planing treatment alone, while the other half will receive the same treatment plus the light therapy. Researchers want to see if the light therapy reduces inflammation and improves gum health better than the standard treatment by itself.

Gum disease is harder to treat in people with obesity because their bodies have more inflammation. This trial is exploring whether this medication could be a helpful add-on to standard gum treatment to get better results in this patient population.
