Blocking a Vein to Treat Chronic Headaches Caused by Nutcracker Syndrome

This trial is testing a procedure called lumbar vein embolization—a minimally invasive treatment where doctors insert a thin tube into a vein in your lower back and place small coils to block abnormal blood flow. The procedure targets people with chronic daily headaches caused by a specific condition called Nutcracker syndrome, where compressed blood vessels create unusual pressure in the spinal area. The goal is to see if blocking this problematic vein can reduce or stop the headaches.

Chronic daily headaches caused by Nutcracker syndrome can be extremely difficult to treat with standard medications. Many patients who have tried multiple preventive drugs without relief may benefit from this new procedure that targets the underlying blood vessel problem rather than just treating symptoms.
