Testing new blood tests to diagnose memory and thinking problems

Researchers at Skåne University Hospital are testing whether a new blood test can diagnose memory and thinking disorders as well as the current standard test (a spinal fluid test). Right now, about 25–30% of patients don't get a correct diagnosis because the spinal fluid test is expensive and uncomfortable. This study will collect blood and spinal fluid samples from 1,200 patients and compare the results to see if the new blood test works well in real clinical practice.

Many people with memory problems don't receive the correct diagnosis with current testing methods. The new blood test could be a game-changer because it's cheaper, less invasive, and easier for patients than the spinal fluid test—but researchers first need to confirm that it works as well as the current standard.
