Testing for a Hidden Hormone Problem in Diabetes Patients with Kidney Risk

This research study is investigating whether some people with type 2 diabetes have a hidden hormonal condition called primary aldosteronism — where the body produces too much of a hormone called aldosterone that can damage the kidneys. The study will test whether identifying this condition early could help prevent kidney disease from developing or getting worse in people at risk.

Kidney disease is very common in people with diabetes and can lead to serious heart problems and the need for dialysis. Recent research suggests that this hidden hormone imbalance may be a key reason why some people develop kidney disease, but it often goes undiagnosed. This study exists to find out if we can catch this condition early and use existing, safe medications to prevent kidney damage before it becomes severe.
