This study is testing a new treatment called Parenting STAIR Modular, which combines two proven approaches: one that helps mothers manage trauma and difficult emotions, and another that improves the parent-child relationship. The program is being offered to military-connected mothers (service members, veterans, or military spouses) who have experienced trauma and their children ages 2–10.

Do you qualify?

You likely qualify if…

you are a mother who is a military service member, veteran, or spouse of a service member or veteran
you have a child between ages 2 and 10 whom you legally care for
you have experienced trauma and screen positive for PTSD, depression, or struggle with parenting confidence
you can speak and understand English or Spanish
you are eligible to receive services at one of the three participating military family clinics in Texas

You likely don't qualify if…

you have thoughts of harming yourself or are at high risk for suicide
you are currently experiencing severe mental health symptoms like psychosis
you have a severe substance or alcohol use problem
your child has severe developmental disabilities
you have a disability that affects your ability to communicate

What participation looks like

If you join, you will be randomly assigned to either the new parenting program (12–16 sessions delivered online) or standard treatment already offered at the clinic. You'll complete assessments before starting, halfway through (around 11 weeks), and at the end (around 17 weeks). These assessments include questionnaires and recorded interactions with your child to measure how you're doing and how the treatment is helping.
