Testing a new breathing sensor in children with sleep and breathing problems

The PARS Study is testing a new device called the Pneumowave sensor — a wearable patch that measures breathing patterns — to see if it can help doctors diagnose breathing problems in children. The sensor is being tested in three groups: children undergoing standard sleep studies, newborns in intensive care at risk of breathing pauses, and children with epilepsy being monitored for seizures. Researchers want to know if this new sensor works well alongside the equipment doctors already use.

Many children with sensory sensitivities or behavior challenges find standard breathing monitoring equipment uncomfortable and difficult to tolerate, making diagnosis harder. Newborns are often too small for standard equipment, and doctors need a better way to catch dangerous breathing problems early — especially in premature babies and children with epilepsy, where abnormal breathing can be life-threatening.
