Testing a weight-loss medication for obesity caused by brain tumors

This trial is testing phentermine/topiramate (a combination medication already approved for common weight loss) in young people ages 6–28 whose obesity developed after a brain tumor or its treatment. Half the participants will receive the active medication and half will receive a placebo (dummy pill) that looks identical, over 28 weeks. The research team wants to learn whether this medication is safe and whether it can help reduce weight in this specific group.

Young people with obesity from brain tumors often struggle with constant hunger and tiredness—side effects of the tumor damage itself. This medication has never been tested in this population, even though it may help by reducing appetite and increasing alertness. This pilot trial will gather the first safety and effectiveness data to see if it's worth studying further.
