AI Technology to Detect Heart Artery Disease Using Ultrasound

Researchers are developing artificial intelligence software that can automatically analyze heart ultrasound images to detect coronary artery disease — a condition where blood vessels supplying the heart become narrowed or blocked. This trial will collect ultrasound scans from about 1,500 patients who are already scheduled for a standard heart catheterization procedure, allowing researchers to test whether the AI system can accurately identify disease from the ultrasound images alone.

Currently, doctors interpret heart ultrasound images by eye, which can be time-consuming and may miss subtle signs of disease. This trial aims to develop AI tools that could automatically detect coronary artery disease faster and more consistently, potentially helping doctors diagnose the condition earlier and more reliably.
