Testing an oral cancer drug for patients whose tumors stopped responding to standard treatments

This trial is testing a new oral medication called Liporaxel (a form of paclitaxel) for patients with advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) whose cancers have stopped responding to the standard drugs usually used to treat this disease. Researchers have found that this medication works better in patients whose tumor cells have a specific characteristic (low P-glycoprotein expression), and this trial will confirm whether the medication is safe and effective for this specific group of patients.

Most patients with advanced GIST eventually develop resistance to the standard medications used to treat their cancer. This trial exists to find a new treatment option for these patients, particularly those whose tumors have the specific genetic trait that makes them more likely to respond to this medication.
