What is this trial?

This is an observational study that follows people with early or intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD) over 2 years to better predict who will develop advanced AMD with serious vision loss. Do you qualify?

You likely qualify if…

you are between 55 and 99 years old
you have been diagnosed with early or intermediate age-related macular degeneration in at least one eye
your eye is clear enough to allow for high-quality imaging and testing
you have not had anti-VEGF injections in your study eye before enrolling

You likely don't qualify if…

you have had eye surgery in the past 3 months
you have received anti-VEGF treatment in your study eye
you have uncontrolled glaucoma or very high eye pressure despite medication
you are currently taking medications that can damage the retina, such as hydroxychloroquine or tamoxifen
you have active wet macular degeneration (new blood vessel growth) at the time of enrollment

What participation looks like

You will visit the clinic every 6 months for 2 years (5 visits total) for standard eye exams and special imaging scans that take pictures of the back of your eye—including optical coherence tomography (OCT), color photography, and angiography imaging. You will also answer a questionnaire about your vision and provide a medical history. No medication or treatment is given in this study; you are simply being monitored to help researchers understand how the disease progresses over time.
