Testing a special oil to help prevent diabetes in people at risk

This trial is testing a butyrate-enriched triglyceride oil—a specially designed supplement—to see if it can help prevent type 2 diabetes in people who are at high risk. The oil contains two compounds (butyrate and hexanoate) that early research suggests may help your body control blood sugar better, reduce inflammation, and improve how your body uses insulin. Half of the participants will receive the active oil, and half will receive a placebo (inactive oil) to compare results.

Animal studies and early human research suggest that butyrate and hexanoate can help your body control weight, reduce inflammation, and improve insulin sensitivity. However, we don't yet know whether taking this medication regularly over a longer period actually prevents diabetes or improves health in people at real risk—that's what this study aims to find out.
