This study doesn't follow the usual testing phases β it may be an observational study or a different type of research.
This trial is testing a program called Honest Open Proud (HOP), designed to help people with psychotic or bipolar disorders learn how to make smart decisions about whether, when, and how to tell others about their mental health condition. The program is run by peer facilitators β people who have lived experience with these conditions β and lasts 6 weeks. Researchers want to see if this program helps reduce shame and anxiety around disclosure, and improves overall wellbeing.
People with psychotic and bipolar disorders often struggle with intense feelings of shame and fear about telling others about their diagnosis. This can lead to isolation and make recovery harder. This trial exists to test whether a peer-led support program can help people navigate these difficult decisions in a healthier way.

If you join the intervention group, you will attend four 2-hour group sessions over 6 weeks (in weeks 1, 2, 3, and 6) with 4β10 other people, using a workbook to learn about disclosure and stigma. You will also continue your regular mental health appointments with your doctor or therapist. If you are assigned to the waiting list group, you will continue your regular appointments as usual, and will be offered the program after the trial ends.
