Testing a flexible asthma inhaler approach in South African children

This trial is testing budesonide/formoterol (a combination anti-inflammatory asthma medication) to see if children and teenagers can use it flexibly — taking it only when they need it — rather than following the traditional approach of taking a daily maintenance dose. The study will compare this flexible approach with standard asthma care to find out which way works better and is more practical for families in South Africa.

Asthma is very common in South African children, but many still have severe symptoms despite available medications. This trial exists to find a simpler, more affordable way to deliver asthma treatment that families can actually follow and that reduces the burden of daily medication schedules.
