How Weight Loss Surgery Affects Bladder and Urinary Symptoms

This is a large study tracking how weight loss surgery affects bladder and urinary symptoms in people with severe obesity. Researchers will follow up to 5,000 patients — some who choose to have weight loss surgery and some who don't — to see whether the surgery improves urinary problems like frequent urination or loss of bladder control. The goal is to understand all the ways that significant weight loss can improve health.

Severe obesity is linked to many health problems, including urinary and bladder symptoms that can affect quality of life. While weight loss surgery is known to help people lose weight and improve diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, doctors want to better understand whether it also helps with bladder and urinary problems — especially in Southeast Asian populations, who may have different health risks than other groups.
