Testing a mental health app to help newly diagnosed leukemia patients

This trial is testing a digital app called DREAMLAND designed specifically for patients hospitalized with acute myeloid leukemia who are undergoing intensive chemotherapy. The app includes four modules that teach coping skills, help you adjust to your diagnosis, manage expectations about your illness, and support self-care — all things that can feel overwhelming during this sudden and difficult time. Half of the participants will use DREAMLAND, while the other half will use a comparison app focused on general wellness topics.

Patients newly diagnosed with leukemia face not only the physical side effects of aggressive chemotherapy, but also tremendous emotional distress — shock, anxiety, depression, and loss of independence during a long hospitalization. While doctors know that mental health support is crucial during this time, there often aren't enough counselors or palliative care specialists available to help all patients. This trial is testing whether a self-guided digital app could provide that much-needed emotional support to more people.
