Supporting autistic parents with a parenting skills program

This study is designed to understand the unique experiences and challenges faced by autistic adults who are parents of young children (ages 0–6 years). Researchers want to learn what support these parents need, and whether an existing parenting program—or a version adapted for autistic parents—can help reduce parental stress and improve parenting skills, particularly in areas like emotion regulation and understanding their child's needs.

Many autistic adults are diagnosed late in life, yet very little research focuses on how autism affects the parenting experience or what kinds of support autistic parents actually need. Early studies suggest that autistic parents may face specific challenges that aren't addressed by standard parenting programs, so this trial aims to fill that gap and develop better support options.
