Testing a new medication to prevent tuberculosis in high-risk people

This trial is testing whether bedaquiline, a tuberculosis medication, can prevent people from developing active TB disease. The study includes people who have been exposed to someone with TB, as well as people living with HIV who are at risk for TB. Researchers want to see if this medication works as well as — or better than — the standard preventive treatments currently recommended.

Standard TB prevention medications have been used for decades, but some people cannot tolerate them or they don't work well for everyone. This medication represents a newer option that might be safer and easier to use, especially for people with drug-resistant TB or those taking HIV medications that interact with standard preventive treatments.
