New medication added to standard esophageal cancer treatment

This trial is testing a medication called trilaciclib, given together with radiation therapy, two chemotherapy drugs (paclitaxel and carboplatin), and immunotherapy for advanced esophageal cancer. The main goal is to see if adding this medication reduces a serious side effect called neutropenia (dangerously low white blood cell counts) that commonly occurs during chemotherapy. Half of participants will receive the new medication along with standard treatment, while the other half will receive standard treatment alone, so researchers can compare how well each approach works.

Chemotherapy for esophageal cancer often causes severe drops in white blood cells, which increases infection risk and sometimes forces doctors to delay or reduce doses. This trial is testing whether the new treatment can protect the bone marrow and prevent this dangerous side effect, potentially making standard cancer treatment safer and more effective.
