Using AI to improve safety in lymph node removal surgery for uterine cancer

Researchers are collecting video recordings of minimally invasive sentinel lymph node surgery (a procedure where surgeons remove specific lymph nodes to check if cancer has spread) in women with endometrial or cervical cancer. The goal is to use artificial intelligence to analyze these videos and help surgeons perform safer operations and detect cancer spread more accurately during surgery.

Surgical complications are common and often preventable. In uterine cancer, surgeons frequently remove lymph nodes for staging, but most patients don't actually have cancer in their lymph nodes—meaning many people face surgery complications they may not need. This research aims to use AI technology to make these surgeries safer and help doctors identify which patients truly need lymph node removal.
