Comparing two nerve block procedures for severe migraines

This trial compares two different nerve block procedures—both guided by ultrasound—for people with chronic migraines that have not improved with at least two standard migraine medications. One group will receive a block of the greater occipital nerve (located at the back of the head), while the other group will receive a block of the stellate ganglion (a nerve cluster in the neck). Researchers will also measure how these treatments affect a protein called calcitonin gene related peptide, which plays a role in migraines.

Many people with chronic migraines do not respond well enough to standard medications, leaving them with few treatment options. This trial exists to see whether these nerve block procedures can safely and effectively reduce migraine frequency and severity in people whose migraines are resistant to drugs.
