Testing a nutrition screening tool for children with inflammatory bowel disease

Children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)—including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis—often struggle with malnutrition because of their condition. This study tests whether an existing screening tool called PYMS can quickly identify children who need nutritional support. If it doesn't work well enough for IBD patients, the researchers will develop a new, specialized screening tool designed specifically for children with these conditions.

Many children with IBD who need nutritional care are not identified quickly enough by their healthcare team, which can make their disease worse and affect their overall health. The study exists to find a better way to spot these children early so they can get the help they need.
