Motivational interviews to help people with chronic lung disease

This study tests whether motivational interviewing—a type of supportive conversation where a nurse helps you set and reach health goals—can improve how people with moderate chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) manage their condition and feel day-to-day. The researchers will compare people who receive these special interviews with those who get standard nursing care, to see if the interviews help patients stick to their treatment, develop healthier habits, and feel better overall.

Many people with COPD struggle to follow their treatment plans, take their medications, and make healthy lifestyle changes—which leads to worse symptoms, more hospitalizations, and a lower quality of life. This trial exists to find out whether motivational interviewing can be an effective, supportive tool to help patients feel more engaged in their own care and better equipped to manage this lifelong condition.
