Building a lupus research database to predict organ complications

This is a research study collecting blood samples and medical records from about 300 people who have been recently diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that can affect multiple organs. Researchers want to use this information to build a biobank—a carefully organized collection of biological samples and patient data—that will help them develop better tools to predict which lupus patients are likely to develop serious complications like kidney disease, blood clotting problems, or lung issues.

Right now, doctors cannot reliably predict which lupus patients will develop severe organ damage over time. By collecting blood samples and detailed health information from newly diagnosed patients, researchers hope to identify early warning signs and patterns that could help doctors catch dangerous complications before they happen, allowing for earlier treatment and better outcomes.
