Testing an inhalable lung medication for rare lung diseases

This study is testing a new inhalable formulation of a medication called Imatinib (brand name XHALIP) to see if it can help treat two serious lung diseases: pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure in the lung arteries) and lung fibrosis (scarring of lung tissue). Researchers will use lung tissue and fluid samples from patients to study whether the medication can reach the diseased cells in the lungs and stop harmful changes that occur in these diseases.

Current treatments for these rare lung diseases are limited, and doctors need better options to slow or stop the lung damage. This early research aims to understand whether delivering the medication directly into the lungs—rather than through the bloodstream—could work better and give hope for a new treatment approach in the future.
