Understanding Fatty Liver Disease in Bowel Disease Patients

This is an observational study — meaning researchers will follow you over time rather than test a new medication. Scientists want to understand how fatty liver disease (a buildup of fat in the liver) occurs in people with inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, and whether having both conditions together affects how well current treatments work and what happens to patients long-term.

Doctors have noticed that many patients with inflammatory bowel disease also develop fatty liver disease, but no one has carefully studied how these two conditions interact or whether fatty liver disease makes bowel disease harder to treat. This research aims to answer those questions so doctors can better care for patients who have both conditions.
