Understanding heart damage when the heartbeat is very fast and irregular

This research study is looking at people who come to the hospital with a very fast, irregular heartbeat (called rapid atrial fibrillation). The researchers want to understand whether certain blood markers and heart imaging can help identify which patients have blocked arteries in their heart or are not getting enough oxygen to their heart muscle. To do this, they will measure a protein in your blood called troponin and perform several heart imaging tests.

Doctors know that some patients with a very fast, irregular heartbeat develop signs of heart damage, but they don't fully understand why this happens or what it means for patient care. This study aims to figure out whether the heart damage is caused by blocked arteries or lack of oxygen, which could help guide better treatment decisions.
