Understanding diagnostic delays in rare lung pressure disease

This is a research study designed to understand why patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension—a rare condition where pressure builds up in the blood vessels of the lungs—often wait years before getting a correct diagnosis. Researchers will review the medical records of patients recently diagnosed with this condition in Brazil to learn how long the diagnostic journey typically takes, how many doctors patients see before being correctly diagnosed, and what barriers or helpful factors affect how quickly people get answers.

Many patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension experience diagnostic delays of 2–4 years or longer, sometimes being misdiagnosed with asthma or heart failure first. By studying this diagnostic journey in Brazil, researchers hope to identify barriers to early diagnosis and develop ways to help future patients get answers faster and start treatment sooner.
