How Mouth Bacteria Differ in Pancreas Diseases

Researchers are studying whether the bacteria living in your mouth are different in people with pancreatic diseases. You would provide a small saliva sample (3-5 milliliters) so researchers can examine and identify the types of bacteria present. The study compares oral bacteria across three groups: people with chronic pancreatitis, people with autoimmune pancreatitis, and people with pancreatic cancer.

While scientists know that bacteria in the gut change in pancreatic disease, very little research has looked at whether mouth bacteria also change in these conditions. This study exists to fill that gap and help doctors better understand how oral bacteria might be connected to pancreatic disease development.
