Plain-English translation of NCT07117370 on ClinicalTrials.gov ↗ · Source last updated · Translation generated · How we translate trials
This study doesn't follow the usual testing phases — it may be an observational study or a different type of research.
This trial is testing Coach Mpilo, a peer support program originally designed to help men stick with HIV treatment in South Africa. Researchers have adapted it to help men complete tuberculosis (TB) treatment, and for men who have both TB and HIV at the same time. The goal is to see if having a peer supporter help guide you through treatment makes it easier to finish your medications and stay healthy.
Men are less likely than women to seek help for TB symptoms, get diagnosed early, or finish their full course of treatment. There are currently no programs specifically designed to support men through TB treatment, so this trial exists to test whether peer support can close that gap and improve outcomes for men.

If you join, you will be randomly assigned to either receive Coach Mpilo peer support or standard clinic-based treatment support. The study will track how well you stick with your TB medications and whether your TB treatment is successful over about 6 months. If you also have HIV, the study will additionally monitor your HIV treatment adherence and whether your viral load becomes undetectable. You will have regular clinic visits and contact with your assigned support person (either a peer coach or standard clinic staff).
